Since joining UK in 2014, Wendy has won a number of university- and college-level teaching awards, including the Great Teacher Award from UK Alumni Association (2019), the University of Kentucky Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award (2018) and the Gatton College Teaching Excellence Award (2018). She has received the state-wide “Teachers Who Made a Difference" recognition every year since 2015. She was recognized as the Mentor of the Week (2017) by the University Undergraduate Research Office and was nominated for the Ken Freedman Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award (2017-2018) and the “Inspirational Women of Gatton" award (2015).
Wendy’s passion is to help students embark on successful careers, working directly with hundreds of students interested in finance careers. She founded and advises the Finance Society, the primary finance student organization that grew to 600+ members and alumni in a few years under her leadership. In 2018, the Finance Society was named the 2018 Student Organization of the Year by the Gatton College. In 2017, Wendy initiated and raised funding for the Pelissier Scholars Wall Street experience, leading a dozen students on a week-long visit to 15+ Wall Street firms each year. In 2018, Wendy initiated the UK Stock Pitch Competition that has attracted dozens of teams each year. In 2019, Wendy designed and assisted in fund-raising for the Wall Street Scholars, a program to accelerate career development success of finance students through an advanced curriculum and tightly coordinated, exclusive co-curricular activities that begin during freshman year.
In the past 15 years, Wendy has taught over 8,000 students in undergraduate- and graduate-level corporate finance, international finance and investment courses in online and traditional formats, including the introductory corporate finance course that typically sees 400+ students in a class each semester. She has been active in service to UK, including the university nominating Committee for the Rhodes Scholarship and Marshall Scholarship, the MS Finance Graduate Studies Committee, and the Undergraduate Studies Committee of Gatton College.
Wendy earned an MBA degree from Wake Forest University and a Ph.D. in Finance from Indiana University. In her leisure time, Wendy enjoys reading, music and watching sports.
